Operations Recommence at Scotland's Busiest Airport In the Wake of Major ATC System Failure

A technical fault at Edinburgh's air traffic control meant no planes could enter or leave the hub.

Air travel have restarted at Scotland's primary international airport after a major air traffic control outage grounded all flights.

All incoming and outgoing flights were halted after an technical fault that was reported at approximately 08:30.

Several flyers found themselves stranded in jets at the stand as the outage continued.

Services Recommence with Ongoing Delays

The airport confirmed at 10:40 that flights had resumed, and expressed gratitude to passengers for their "understanding and cooperation".

Nonetheless, significant disruption are expected to continue throughout the day. Flights to key destinations like Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, and Bristol have been cancelled, with a host of additional flights experiencing delays.

A spokesperson had previously estimated that a significant number of movements could be disrupted.

"Travelers are urged to check directly with their airline for the most up-to-date details on their individual travel plans," the statement added.

Source of the Issue

Officials linked the widespread suspension to an IT issue with its control tower systems vendor.

Flyers continue to be advised to verify the schedule of their journey before traveling to the hub as backlogs are cleared.
