The parent firm of Google Alphabet Inc. plans to commit $15bn to establish an AI data hub in southern India's Andhra Pradesh state.
The facility, that is planned in the coastal city of the city of Visakhapatnam, is going to be a part of Google's global network of AI centers distributed over twelve different countries.
"This represents the biggest artificial intelligence center that we plan to invest in worldwide, outside of the United States of America," Thomas Kurien stated at an gathering in Delhi, the national capital on Tuesday, noting that the investment will be spread over the next five years.
The announcement occurs when President Trump of the United States has been encouraging American companies to give priority to investments within the country.
The nation has emerged as a major hub for AI data centers. India's low data costs and quickly expanding digital audience have established it as a center for AI and cloud growth for technology leaders.
"The infrastructure will deliver our cutting-edge technology to businesses and consumers in the nation, accelerating AI development and stimulating expansion across the country," said Alphabet's chief executive Sundar Pichai.
An official contract to finalise the initiative is scheduled for signing soon, state authorities said.
"It constitutes a massive leap for the digital progression of our state, technological innovation, and international reputation," said the technology official Nara Lokesh, the technology minister.
This initiative will integrate computing and artificial intelligence facilities with green energy infrastructure and an broader fiber-optic system.
The venture is included in the state government's plan to establish 6GW of data centre capacity by 2029.
Data centres are actual buildings that house the computing and networking equipment that organizations use to gather, analyze, save, and share information.
These include servers, storage systems and network equipment like firewalls and routers, in addition to the essential electricity and temperature control systems to operate them.
In Andhra Pradesh, the state authorities has been providing subsidised land and electricity to attract international investors.
