Steam Next Fest is currently underway, and enthusiasts have encountered numerous entertaining independent titles. Yet, one stands out for its quirky concept. Titled Unko Technica, this old-school styled side-scrolling game features a character that is literally a piece of poop trying to travel to a commode. In case you're wondering, "Unko" translates to "poop."
The gameplay is straightforward: press a one button to leap. Throughout 150 stages, encounter mini-bosses and access a market to acquire skins for your poop character.
Time your jumps carefully, as a wrong move requires starting over. Bounce on bubbles to hurl your character to new heights, traverse crumbling ledges, and touch triggers to unlock new areas. Collect currency to purchase challenging levels as things gets crazy.
In terms of design, the experience features eye-catching environments and catchy soundtrack. The simple art of morphing geometric shapes may remind fans of old favorites like Earthbound.
Even though hard to recall previous releases where you control a dung character, gaming have long incorporated fecal matter. As an illustration, in Death Stranding, players create grenades from protagonist excrement. Examples include Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved use feces as soil enrichment. Naturally, this theme is present extensively in the role-playing game The Stick of Truth.
Despite its silly concept, Unko Technica has already earned significant awards, including being named best at a major publisher's game competition in 2023. This trial version is available currently on Steam, with the final release planned to debut on PC on November 19.
